My Experience with Alias by SockPuppet

I was given the opportunity to try Alias by SockPuppet during the TraceLabs Global OSINT Search Party CTF that took place on November 15th, 2025. If you don’t know about TraceLabs, they hold OSINT CTFs to help law enforcement find missing people. SockPuppet is also a sponsor of TraceLabs and is one of their CTF prizes.

I’ve participated in several OSINT CTFs and the most frustrating thing for me has been creating sock accounts that don’t get suspended.

The Alias platform by SockPuppet, which is all browser based, was AMAZING. It’s a Sock Puppet as a Service type of platform where you get access to already created and maintained sock accounts (Aliases) complete with a photo, digital persona (name, DOB, occupation, etc), as well as a virtual phone and phone number. It also includes a virtual desktop that you can use for OSINT investigations. Both the virtual desktop and the virtual phone have screen recording options.

Each alias comes with several pre-created accounts. You can also add as many other accounts as you want to an alias. I had to add accounts on the fly during the CTF and the SMS and email verifications worked perfectly. You can see all SMS messages on a tab within the platform and can use pre-created email accounts for each Alias.

It has a Platform Accounts tab that stores all of the information for each account such as usernames, passwords, email addresses, phone numbers and display names.

There is also a File Vault that allows you to share files between the virtual desktop, virtual phone, and the SockPuppet platform itself.

On top of that, SockPuppet has several locations available for each Alias.

I also tested an Alias with Magnet AXIOM Cyber’s public social media acquisition feature. I had success with one of the two social media accounts I tried. The second social media account blocked the login. It’s trickier to use an Alias outside of the SockPuppet virtual desktop and phone, but with a few tweaks (such as letting the account age for a while), I was told that SockPuppet would be able to support public account acquisition in forensics software like Magnet AXIOM that’s not installed on the SockPuppet virtual desktop.

Using Alias by SockPuppet was by far the best experience I’ve had with sock accounts during an OSINT CTF.

As far as cost goes, the price for individuals starts at around $500/month.
