Walkthrough: Kase Scenarios – The Vanishing of Rosie Parker

I recently completed the Betrayal, Sinister Obsession, Dark Waters, and Vanishing of Rosie Parker Kase Scenarios. They are immersive, realistic OSINT training scenarios. I LOVE the format and had a great time doing them. You can see my review HERE. I’m not going to lie, I learned a lot on the fly while going through them. I decided to do a walkthrough for The Vanishing of Rosie Parker. I like walkthroughs that don’t immediately show the answer so I can be pointed in the right direction. That’s what I’m going to attempt to do here. If you’re reading this and...

Free & Affordable Training News Monthly: Nov-Dec, 2023

The following contains newly released DFIR & OSINT training and tools from November, as well as upcoming live training for December. A couple of these were released at the end of October and I missed them in my last blog post so I’m adding them here. I also list new additions to the Free & Affordable Training Site. Like the Free & Affordable Training Site, everything in this blog post is under $1,000. Note: Purchases made through affiliate/partner links and/or using personalized discount codes is one of the things I rely on to be able to keep this website running....

My Experience with Kase Scenarios: Immersive OSINT Training

I first heard about Kase Scenarios last year on social media and it looked really cool. I purchased all of them during their recent Black Friday bundle sale (one is free) and completed each one. They definitely did not disappoint. These are realistic, immersive OSINT investigations where you learn by doing. Betrayal is free. Check out the intro video: They have videos for the other scenarios on their YouTube Channel. The scenarios are like CTF-type simulations of real-life investigations with great storylines and graphics. There is no time limit and no points, so you don’t have to worry about getting...

Free & Affordable Training News: Black Friday 2023 Edition

I will still be sending out the “Free & Affordable Training News Monthly” at the end of this month with the newly launched training, but there are so many good DFIR and OSINT deals going on, I couldn’t resist highlighting them. If you want to see a list of all deals, they are located on the Current Discounts page of the Free & Affordable Training site. That list is updated year-round. Everything on the Free & Affordable training site is under $1,000 so that’s what I’ll be highlighting here as well. Can’t afford the deals? I’ll also be letting you...

Free & Affordable Training News Monthly: October 2023

It’s been over a year since my last blog post. Instead of sending out a newsletter, each month I will blog about newly launched training and let you know about upcoming training events. The focus is on Digital Forensics & Incident Response (DFIR) training. Like the Free and Affordable Training Site, nothing in these blog posts will be over $1,000. This first blog post will cover two months of new releases since I started getting caught up in September after being out of the loop for a while. I will also list the training that has been added to the...

The IR Training Plan Using Free Courses has been Updated

The other day I realized the Incident Response Training Plan I created had some broken links. I also discovered that some of the platforms I had in the plan changed their free offerings. So, I went through the various platforms (RangeForce, CyberDefenders, TryHackMe, etc), and updated the plan. I also replaced a couple of courses with newer courses that came out. The plan is based on a combination of what I wish I knew before starting in Incident Response, and Ryan Chapman’s Implementing a Kick-Butt Training Program: BLUE TEAM GO! talk. Part One of the plan is geared toward people...

DFIR & Cybersecurity Events are Back!

Hello everyone! The new DFIR & Cybersecurity Community Events site is now live! The main goal of this is to help beginners to Digital Forensics & Incident Response find free and affordable events to attend, but events related to other areas of Cybersecurity, OSINT and IT are also welcome. This will replace the monthly DFIR Related Events for Beginners blog posts as well as the DFIR, Cybersecurity and IT calendar I had on the Free and Affordable training site. The home page of the site is similar to the calendar I had on the training site. It has events from...

Site Updates, Events, and My Myeloma Diagnosis

Hey everyone! I’m sorry haven’t blogged or posted on social media in a while. It’s been a rough few months. Last year pretty much all of my waking hours outside of work (when I wasn’t studying for certs or taking training courses) were spent on my blog/website and related social media. I was staying up all hours of the night actively looking for events for the events blog posts and calendar, training for the training site, discounts for the discounts page, manually scouring job ads to keep the job board populated with jobs that met the posting criteria, and responding...
